About your captain

Capt. Mel Walker is the owner and operator of the Gotcha. He was born in 1962 right here in South Florida and has worked as a professional fisherman his entire adult life.

A first mate will be on board for all trips and our mates are the best in the business. We are proud to have a 90% repeat clientele, therefore references are available, probably in your state. With full and half day trips available we cater to the seasoned tournament angler as well as the first time fishing family. We have had 3 generations on board many times, including the great Joe Dimaggio with his grandson.

The tackle is provided on all trips and is custom made. We use Diawa spinning gear in the 6, 12, and 20 lb. line classes and Penn International trolling gear in the 20 30 50 and 80 lb. line classes

The fishing seasons: There are two main seasons for sportfishing in the Florida Keys. The winter season, starting in October running thru April and summer season is April thru October.

Winter season: sailfish, king mackerel, wahoo, blackfin tuna, cobia, amberjack snapper, and grouper.

Summer season: dolphin (mahi-mahi) wahoo, blackfin tuna, amberjack, skipjack tuna, triple tail, and an occasional blue marlin, white marlin, or sailfish.
